Brand identity is critical in positioning your company above the competition. It takes time, hard work and a solid financial investment to develop a strong brand. It’s not as simple as putting a new design twist on a logo or website. It’s also not as simple as throwing out a new tagline or slogan for all to see and hear. The whole underlying message of your brand is what turns potential customers into actual customers, while your competition watches hopelessly from the other side of the street.

It doesn’t matter if we are talking about a new or existing business, the people within your company must be your strongest brand ambassadors. This is imperative more so with an existing company that is looking to successfully re-brand. Your employees believe in the business and have invested themselves within the company walls. They need to get it! Employees and management alike need to be on the same page before a re-branding effort is publicly launched. If not, the everyday operations of the business will suffer greatly and may take years to fully recover, if ever. Your employees fully understanding the brand can and will determine future success or failure.

Along with your employees, the next most important group of brand ambassadors for your company are your existing customers believe it or not. The customers that have grown to love what you bring to the table need to have a clear understanding, that what they are getting is a new and improved version of the same. This is often much easier said than done as consumers can tend to see change and assume what they are used to, might be tampered with…effecting the quality of service or product you offer negatively. It’s generally more important to keep existing customers in mind during re-branding, as it might be to concentrate on the potential customers the re-brand may attract. This is simply because the existing customers are there…and have been a key element that has  built your business. Brand development can be very tricky. It’s not as much hit or miss, as it is critical thinking and proceed with caution.
