There’s a lot to be said about this mobile movement…  I saw a commercial tonight for a device made by Samsung that is the hybrid of a tablet and a smartphone. Pretty interesting that the manufacturers of these devices are literally figuring things out on the fly and the rest of us are doing the same.

Our best advice is that you need to let your current web infrastructure tell you when its time to consider mobile website design.  By this I mean looking at your statistics on your website and interpreting them.  If you see that 5% of your visitors this week came to your site on a mobile device (iphone, droid) and you compare that to last months stats of 1%, well then this should tell you something.

Trends are certainly important but not the only factor. You really need to understand who your customer is.  This isn’t just for a mobile presence, right?  This is an overall good tactic to put into place as a business owner – who is my customer?  How do they communicate? Where do they spend most of their time?  Answer to these questions could put you in a strategic position… communicate and engage those customers in the place where they are most willing to spend their time. Perhaps it is indeed time to consider wap web design… (wireless application design – aka creating a website that is viewable on mobile devices).

So, “going mobile” is such a buzzworthy term these days but most don’t understand truly what it means just yet.  Our recommendation is to take a deep dive, take a minute to understand who you are selling to – and this will provide you with the answers you need to determine if a mobile website design presence is right for you.
